SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) \u2014 Rock Valley, Iowa, native Garret Greenfield is embarking on his second season in the NFL and is currently on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers\u2019 practice squad.<\/p>\n
Greenfield went undrafted out of SDSU and signed with the Seattle Seahawks in the spring of 2024. He made it the final round of roster cuts before being waived. He then spent three weeks with the New York Giants\u2019 practice squad. Now in Tampa, he\u2019s aiming to take the lessons he learned from those stops to make the 53-man roster.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnother year being around more challenges every day and just trying looking for ways to get better,\u201d Greenfield said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m looking for ways to stick around.\u201d<\/p>\n
The offensive tackle attended the Bucs\u2019 OTAs and minicamp in June and soaked up as many lessons as he could from an organization that has won four straight division titles and made the playoffs each of the last five seasons.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou learn a lot in a short amount of time,\u201d Greenfield said. \u201cSo, just being around some some of the guys who have been there for eight, nine, 10 years, so just picking up tricks of what they do, learning how to be a better football player, how to do little things differently at that higher level every single day. That really goes a long way.\u201d<\/p>\n
The former all-American with the Jackrabbits cherishes every moment he\u2019s around the NFL and doesn\u2019t take a second for granted.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day you got to take it for what it is and realize how big of a blessing it is to be in that position that you\u2019re in,\u201d Greenfield said. \u201cBefore you go out to practice or you have meetings, you just got to remind yourself that you\u2019re living your childhood dream and this is what you\u2019ve always wanted and you\u2019ve work so hard.\u201d<\/p>\n
Greenfield gets busy soon as the Buccaneers training camp begins in a couple weeks. That\u2019s ahead of their first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on August 9.<\/p>\n
