Another big step was getting to know all the guys because you’re now in a room with 20 guys instead of a room with five or 10. So, getting to know the guys, it just takes time, but I think I’ve adapted okay to it.”

Brix got his feet wet in the season-opening win over UTEP before redshirting.

“It was just really cool,” Brix said of his debut. “I mean, it was just like, wow, I’m out here in Memorial Stadium playing and this is awesome. The fall camp leading up to that and learning the process of preparing for a game (was great).”

The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. As for on the field, the adjustment from Logan-Magnolia’s wishbone offense to more of a pro-style look will take some time, but he had plenty of help.

“I think the biggest thing was pass blocking,” Brix said. “Run blocking, as well. I think the biggest help I had was just when you get into the program, there’s guys around you like Bryce Benhart, Turner Corcoran, Teddy Prochazka. They take you in and teach you, and I think those guys were the biggest help. You’re told what to do in the meeting rooms, but going out there and trying to figure it out is a whole different deal. To have guys like that who have done it before definitely helped.”

With year two ahead, Brix is just continuing to focus on what he can do to make the offensive line room even better at Nebraska.

“The biggest thing is just whatever helps Nebraska win,” he said. “I think, as a unit, we want to win the Joe Moore Award (for the top offensive line in the country) as any offensive line would. And I just want to improve myself the best I possibly can. It’s just every day, go out there and work with the other guys and work on something.”

Listen to much more with Brix in our latest KMAland Catch Up and regional college football preview in the audio file below.

Your browser does not support the audio element.

                                Thank you for reading kmaland.com

At KMA, we attempt to be accurate in our reporting.
