THE Indianapolis Colts apparently have a clear leader in the race to be starting quarterback.<\/p>\n

Daniel Jones<\/a> and Anthony Richardson<\/a> are in a battle to be the No. 1 signal caller.<\/p>\n

Anthony Richardson has been starter for two years but faces competition for his jobCredit: AP<\/p>\n

Richardson, 23, is a former fourth overall NFL Draft<\/a> pick and headed into his third season with the Colts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But has has played just 15 times in two seasons so far through a mix of injuries and poor play.<\/p>\n

Richardson was benched during the 2024 season<\/a> after an incident the previous week.<\/p>\n

He came out of a game voluntarily because he needed a break.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old returned to the starting lineup later in the season.<\/p>\n

But the Colts have still decided to bring in Jones during the off-season.<\/p>\n

He signed a one-year deal worth $14 million with Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

And that has led to a quarterback battle between Richardson and Jones.<\/p>\n

The Athletic reports that Jones has taken a “significant” lead over Richardson to be the starter.<\/p>\n

Jones, 28, was previously a sixth overall pick by the New York Giants.<\/a><\/p>\n

He was on the Minnesota Vikings<\/a> for the 2024 campaign before his move to the Colts.<\/p>\n

“I think it\u2019s like you would in any situation, just trying to prepare and grow with it every day,” Jones told reporters at Colts camp.<\/p>\n

“I’ve got a lot of work to do, just learning this offense and getting used to it.<\/p>\n

“So I’m trying to focus as much on that and then playing good football when I\u2019m on the field at practice.<\/p>\n

“Building up reps, the preparation we do in the meeting room, the installs, being detailed and specific about our reads.<\/p>\n

“Where we need to be looking at where the receivers are going to be \u2014 how we\u2019re seeing certain looks. <\/p>\n

“So, I\u2019ve really enjoyed that part of the learning process, and feel like that\u2019s helped on the field. <\/p>\n

“But I\u2019ll continue to learn and grow in my understanding of this offense, and how to execute it. <\/p>\n

“But yeah, I think it\u2019s been a productive spring from that standpoint.”<\/p>\n
