Another day, and another idea of the Buffalo Bills going after a top NFL weapon has greeted us.<\/p>\n

With Josh Allen’s weapons<\/a>, for some, considered less than, a move for a genuine No. 1 is something that should be done this offseason.<\/p>\n

However, we have stated numerous times that the Bills showed last season they didn’t need one, plus the salary cap constraints would make it tough to get a James Cook deal done at $15 million APY, let alone one for a top receiver.<\/p>\n

But alas, Bleacher Reports Alex Kay has named the Bills as a possible trade candidate for Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin.<\/p>\n

“After coming up painfully short in the postseason yet again, the Buffalo Bills had a surprisingly quiet offseason in terms of upgrading their skill-position talent,” Kay writes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“McLaurin would instantly become Allen’s top target and perfectly augment the versatile Khalil Shakir and developing Keon Coleman to form the nucleus of a passing attack that has potential rate among the best in the league. If they’re willing to part with a first-round pick in addition to completing those cap maneuvers, it wouldn’t be a shock to see McLaurin land in western New York.”<\/p>\n

Now, the idea we love. McLaurin in Buffalo’s offense would be something special, and we agree with Kay on that.<\/p>\n

But the Bills trading away a first-round pick, plus the number of contract restructures needed, Kay mentioned could be done to free up space, would be huge; plus, why haven’t the Bills done that for Cook to get him re-signed if it is so easy?<\/p>\n

Plus, Washington won’t be letting McLaurin leave. While we never say never in the league, it is as close to that as it could be. The Commanders are in win-now mode and aren’t in the business of trading away its best offensive weapon.<\/p>\n

So there are a host of reasons why this move for McLaurin, while a good idea, simply won’t work.<\/p>\n
