Deion Sanders is back in front of microphones and back to keeping receipts.<\/p>\n
The Colorado head coach didn\u2019t stir the pot with Paul Finebaum this time<\/a>. Nor did he revive his ongoing cold war<\/a> with The Denver Post. But at Big 12 Media Days, Sanders made it clear he hasn\u2019t exactly rolled out the welcome mat for The Athletic, either.<\/p>\n Sanders has famously blocked out certain members of the media before. He iced out The Post\u2019s Sean Keeler<\/a> last season after Keeler referred to Sanders as a \u201cfalse prophet,\u201d \u201cDeposition Deion,\u201d \u201cPlanet Prime,\u201d and the \u201cBruce Lee of B.S.\u201d He also briefly refused to speak to CBS reporters<\/a> before later clarifying the beef<\/a> and making amends<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now, The Athletic seems to be on his \u201cbulljunk\u201d list.<\/p>\n Colorado\u2019s Deion Sanders asked a question by the Athletic, refuses to answer: \u201cYou gonna be on that bulljunk.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014 Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) July 9, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n When senior writer David Ubben asked a fairly innocuous question about Sanders\u2019 health and daily routine \u2014 a logical topic given Sanders\u2019 recent absence<\/a> \u2014 he got little more than deflection.<\/p>\n \u201cAthletic, sometimes y\u2019all be on that bulljunk,\u201d Sanders said. \u201cSo, I\u2019m really not going to tell you much. You know that. But I\u2019m not here to talk to you about my health; I\u2019m here to talk about my team.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Ubben tried again, this time asking about life on Sanders\u2019 ranch.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery day, I\u2019m living good,\u201d Sanders responded. \u201cI\u2019m living lovely. God has truly blessed me. Not a care in the world. Not a want or desire in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAlright, appreciate it,\u201d Ubben said, ending the exchange.<\/p>\n \u201cAppreciate you,\u201d Sanders replied.<\/p>\n It didn\u2019t feel personal, at least not in the way things got with Keeler<\/a>. But the interaction was tense enough to suggest Sanders\u2019 issue was less with Ubben himself and more with the New York Times-owned outlet. And just like with CBS, the door probably remains open for reconciliation, depending on how The Athletic covers Colorado in the future.<\/p>\n As for his health, Sanders has spent the last few weeks at his estate in Texas dealing with an unspecified medical issue. He skipped Colorado\u2019s summer football camps in Boulder \u2014 camps he previously attended in both 2023 and 2024 \u2014 as he continued to recover.<\/p>\n Sanders first opened up about his condition on a podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel<\/a> back in May, revealing he\u2019d lost 14 pounds. Beyond that, details have been scarce.<\/p>\n So naturally, when he reemerged this week at the Big 12 Media Days, questions about his health were going to come. Sanders just wasn\u2019t interested in answering them, at least not from The Athletic.<\/p>\n \t
