NFL training camp is right around the corner, which means players will be fighting for a chance to make the 53-man roster, though some fates have already been decided by analysts.<\/p>\n

In the Sporting News’ Ryan O’Leary early 53-man roster projection<\/a>, he broke down the quarterback situation and listed Dorian Thompson-Robinson as the “odd-man out.”<\/p>\n

In typical Eagles fashion, O’Leary kept three quarterbacks on the roster with Jalen Hurts as the obvious QB1. He has Tanner McKee and Kyle McCord as Hurts’ backups.<\/p>\n

Notable cut candidate: Dorian Thompson-Robinson. With McKee ascending to the QB2 spot, the Eagles are set to break in their latest sixth-round quarterback in McCord, a rookie who posted some eye-popping numbers last season with Syracuse. That leaves DTR, who was acquired in the Kenny Pickett trade this past spring, as the odd man out.<\/p>\n

The Eagles sent backup quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns back in March, acquiring Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round in return.<\/p>\n

Thompson-Robinson, 25, was a former fifth-round pick out of UCLA by the Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft. He will enter his third year of a four-year, $4.2 million rookie contract. Thompson-Robinson appeared in seven games with two starts, completing 61 of 118 pass attempts (51.7 percent) for 440 yards, no touchdowns, and six interceptions last fall. He also rushed 21 times for 122 yards.<\/p>\n

While O’Leary has already decided Thompson-Robinson’s fate, the Eagles also hinted at it during the draft when they selected\u00a0Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord in the sixth round.<\/p>\n

McCord, a Philly native, takes the jump to the NFL following an impressive senior campaign at Syracuse, topping the FBS with 4,779 passing yards and 34 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll definitely push Thompson-Robinson in camp, but earning a spot on the 53-man roster as a rookie will be just as challenging.<\/p>\n

We’ll keep an eye on this rookie vs. veteran competition when training camp kicks off on July 22.<\/p>\n
