The New York Giants invested a ton in free agent safety Jevon Holland this offseason.<\/p>\n

After four solid seasons in Miami, Holland inked a three-year, $45.3 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed back in mid-March.<\/p>\n

Holland was drafted with the No. 36 overall pick in 2021 and made a quick impression as a rookie. He earned All-Rookie honors and All-Pro honors from PFF.<\/p>\n

He didn’t appear in ESPN’s top 10 list of the best safeties, but he did earn an honorable mention.<\/p>\n

The list was compiled by Jeremy Fowler, who surveyed NFL executives, coaches and scouts. One of those executives cited a recent “regression” for why he might’ve missed the list.<\/p>\n

“I still love the skill set, but he drastically regressed last year, which was shocking to see from a young player in a contract year.” — NFL personnel director<\/a><\/p>\n

But Holland’s regression was slight last season. He appeared in 15 games and posted 62 tackles with 42 solo and two for loss. He added a sack and two QB hits. He also registered a forced fumble.<\/p>\n

The strength of his game was and still is “versatility.”<\/p>\n

“He has that special buzzword — versatility — and can play deep safety and man-to-man out of the slot,” ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe wrote when Holland was drafted in 2021<\/a>. “In fact, Holland played 64% of his coverage snaps in the slot at Oregon. Holland is a playmaker with nine interceptions over two seasons, which should help the Dolphins be better covering sideline-to-sideline and tackling speedy receivers.”<\/p>\n
