Watt contract saga is getting <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/30\/sports\/nfl-teams-pondering-tj-watt-trade-where-steelers-stand\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">worse and worse for the Steelers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh\u2019s contract negotiations with Watt are reportedly going nowhere, and the star linebacker\u2019s trade value appears to be brutally low.<\/p>\n<p>In an appearance on 93.7 The Fan on Friday,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3H91OYwTpg4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly said Watt would \u201cprobably\u201d command a second-round pick in a trade<\/a>, which the Steelers might consider if negotiations reach a \u201cpoint of no return.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36512221\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/pittsburgh-steelers-outside-linebacker-t-18694243.jpg\" alt=\"T.J. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are obviously inquiring to see what that [return] might be,\u201d Kaboly said. \u201cIf it gets to the point where it\u2019s point of no return, maybe that second round pick becomes very handsome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kaboly added that by reaching out about Watt\u2019s value, the Steelers are doing \u201cdue diligence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an episode of ESPN\u2019s \u201cUnsportsmanlike\u201d on Tuesday, NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported the Steelers and Watt are \u201cfar apart\u201d in contract talks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been other teams that have mulled the idea that maybe they would approach the Pittsburgh Steelers about a trade,\u201d Schefter said. \u201cNow, the Steelers have zero intention of trading him \u2014 but something has to give. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t have it both ways. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Watt, 30, is a seven-time Pro-Bowler and one of the premier defensive players in the NFL.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over his eight-year NFL career, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/29\/sports\/t-j-watt-absent-from-steelers-otas-as-j-j-turns-up-contract-pressure\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watt has made<\/a> 108 sacks and forced 33 fumbles, including 11.5 sacks and a league-high six forced fumbles last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Watt, who would become an unrestricted free agent in 2026, is <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/article\/steelers-north-myles-garrett-pricey-145212966.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reportedly<\/a> using Myles Garrett\u2019s historic four-year contract extension, which pays $40 million per year, as a benchmark for his new deal.<\/p>\n<p>That high asking price, plus Watt\u2019s age, lowers his value in trade talks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re shopping [Watt], just to see what the return might be, you\u2019re probably not gonna get as much as you think you\u2019re gonna get,\u201d Kaboly added. \u201cIf you could get a 2nd rounder you\u2019d probably be lucky, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The T.J.
