Trevor Lawrence finished 86th out of 90 players in the first round of the American Century Championship golf tournament.Lawrence scored -18 points using the Modified Stableford format, shooting a 98 (51-47).He performed better in the back nine, scoring several pars and one bogey after a difficult front nine.<\/p>\n

Jacksonville Jaguars fans<\/a> can look at it this way: Maybe quarterback Trevor Lawrence<\/a> has been working so hard mastering coach Liam Coen’s system<\/a> that he’s neglected his golf game.<\/p>\n

Lawrence won’t be quitting his day job any time soon, based on an awful start in the first round of the American Century Championship<\/a> on July 11 at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nev. Lawrence posted a minus-18 points under the Modified Stableford format and finished 86th out of 90 players.<\/p>\n

Lawrence shot 98 (51-47) but the gross score doesn’t matter under the format, which calls for players to pick up if they’re going to make worse than a double bogey.<\/p>\n

Lawrence finished ahead of sports TV and radio personality Rich Eisen and New Orleans safety Justin Reid (minus-19 points), NBC sports personality Kathryn Tappen (minus-20) and NBC Today Show meteorologist Dylan Dreyer (minus-22).<\/p>\n

Trevor Lawrence played better late<\/p>\n

Last year, in his first appearance in the tournament<\/a>, Lawrence had an up-and-down week but finished with his best score in the final round, a 76. He tied for 44th with 12 points, beating, among others, other active NFL quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield, and retired quarterbacks Joe Theismann and Steve Young.<\/p>\n

It was a tough day from the start for the Jaguars<\/a> QB1, He double-bogeyed his first four holes before stopping the bleeding somewhat with a bogey at the par-3 fifth hole.<\/p>\n

Lawrence then made two more doubles and two more bogeys to close out the front nine with a 15-over 51 and minus-12 points.<\/p>\n

Lawrence seemed to bounce back a bit when he made three bogeys in a row at Nos. 9, 10 and 11. But he then doubled Nos. 12 and 13.<\/p>\n

A bogey at No. 14 was then followed by his first par of the day at No. 15, which was the first hole where Lawrence received positive points (1). Lawrence then doubled No. 16, parred No. 17 and finished with his final double.<\/p>\n

When will Trevor Lawrence tee off in the second round?<\/p>\n

Lawrence will tee off at 11:38 a.m. (EDT) and play with actor Miles Teller (minus-5 points) and Saturday Night Live cast member Colin Jost (minus-4). Lawrence played with Teller and Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk in the first round.<\/p>\n

Former NHL player Joe Pavelski leads the tournament with 23 points, one ahead of former NBA player Vinny Del Negro. Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry and former soccer player Taylor Twellman are tied at 21 points.<\/p>\n

The tournament uses a modified Stableford format that awards points for the outcome of a hole.<\/p>\n
