The New Orleans Saints still have a major task to take care of this offseason, but they are not alone whatsoever. The Los Angeles Chargers are feeling the uncertainty surrounding second-round picks that are not signed as of yet. Second-round rookie wideout Tre Harris is officially holding out for the Chargers, as training camp began for LA recently. <\/p>\n

Rookie QB Tyler Shough remains unsigned so far<\/p>\n

As of now, 30 of 32 second-round picks remain unsigned. Saints rookie QB Tyler Shough is one of those 30. Training camp begins in a week for New Orleans.<\/p>\n

The league-wide problem is the result of the first two rookies selected in the round signing fully guaranteed deals: LB Carson Schwesinger (Cleveland Browns<\/a>) and WR Jayden Higgins (Houston Texans<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Rookie deals for draft picks have pre-established values agreed by the NFL and NFLPA through their Collective Bargaining Agreement. However, guarantees and specific language for those guarantees are negotiated. When both Schwesinger and Higgins received fully guaranteed deals earlier in the offseason, they set a precedent that every agent wants to take advantage of. — Mauricio Rodriguez<\/a><\/p>\n

It is unknown if Shough would be a part of training camp activities with the team if he is not signed by then. Even without a contract, he took part of OTAs for the Saints earlier in the offseason. Training camp reps are incredibly important around the NFL.<\/p>\n

For the QB position under Kellen Moore, Shough and Spencer Rattler are battling for the starting spot. If Shough has to miss some practice or prep time due to his contract, Rattler could gain an early edge to win the role.<\/p>\n

The Saints report to training camp<\/a> on July 22nd. On July 23rd, the Saints will begin having practices open to the public during camp. With limited time remaining in the offseason, the pressure to get a deal done with Shough will only increase.<\/p>\n
