The West Virginia<\/a> Mountaineers football program has added another key piece in the backfield with a commitment from Chesterfield (Va.) Varina 2026 running back SirPaul Cheeks<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He announced the decision on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Cheeks, 5-foot-9, 185-pounds, picked the Mountaineers over scholarship offers from Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Temple, South Florida, Liberty, and Connecticut, among others.<\/p>\n

But his recruitment came down to West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Cheeks took an official visit to West Virginia over the June 13-15 weekend and that pushed the Mountaineers even further up his list of options.<\/p>\n

The Virginia prospect is coming off a junior campaign where he had a total of 1,495 all-purpose yards with 18 touchdowns along with six interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.<\/p>\n

Cheeks received a scholarship offer from West Virginia in February and the Mountaineers were considered one of the schools at the top of his list moving forward. That culminated in his official visit to campus and subsequent commitment to the program around a month later.<\/p>\n

Cheeks brings speed to the running back room and the versatility as a pass catcher to be utilized in a number of ways within the West Virginia offensive system. The Rivals three-star prospect also competes in track where he logged a personal best of 10.63 in the 100-meter dash back in April.<\/p>\n

Cheeks is the third running back to commit to West Virginia in the 2026 class, along with Georgetown (Texas) athlete\u00a0Jett Walker<\/a>\u00a0and Memphis (TN) Whitehaven running back\u00a0Christopher Talley<\/a>.<\/p>\n
