As Quinn Ewers<\/a> continued to slide in the 2025 NFL Draft<\/a>, many wondered why he did not come back for another season of college football. Ewers likely would have been playing for a different team as Texas<\/a> transitioned into the Arch Manning<\/a> era. On3\u2019s Pete Nakos<\/a> reported on the interest Ewers was receiving from teams<\/a> hoping he would hit the NCAA transfer portal<\/a>, with offers reaching $6 million.<\/p>\n

But as Ron Slavin, the quarterback\u2019s agent, explained after the Miami Dolphins took Ewers in the seventh round, entering the transfer portal was never an option. Slavin says Ewers would have had to make a decision while Texas was still playing in the College Football Playoff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If Ewers put his name on the open market with a matchup against Ohio State<\/a> on deck, chaos certainly would have ensued. Not something Ewers or Slavin saw as a possibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can ask those questions, but the reality of it is the way the portal schedule is set, it was not possible for Quinn because he didn\u2019t want to be talked to about the portal,\u201d Slavin said<\/a> via ESPN\u2019s Todd Archer. \u201cWhen they beat Arizona State<\/a> on Jan. 1, the next game was Jan 10. If he was going to commit to Miami<\/a> or Notre Dame<\/a>, he\u2019s going to do that while his team\u2019s got a playoff game in a week? And his teammates are going to look at him like, \u2018You\u2019re going to another school if we lose?\u2019 You can\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Slavin added schools wanted an answer on Ewers\u2019 decision on Jan. 1, the same day of the Peach Bowl against Arizona State. Miami and Notre Dame were mentioned specifically by Slavin. <\/p>\n

Notre Dame was still alive in the CFP, going on to play in the national championship. Marcus Freeman<\/a> did not take a quarterback out of the transfer portal this offseason as the 2025 starter will come from inside the program. Miami wound up with Carson Beck<\/a> out of Georgia<\/a> although, he did not announce a commitment until Jan. 10.<\/p>\n

Ewers will instead get his professional career with the Dolphins. Playing for Texas is how he wanted to be remembered in the college football world, helping the Longhorns achieve success the program has not seen in a long time. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe wanted to win a national championship,\u201d Slavin said. \u201cHe wanted to leave a legacy at Texas.
