James Cook and Kyren Williams have the same problem.<\/p>\n

It has nothing to do with their production for the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams, respectively.<\/p>\n

Instead, the problem is simple: They’re running backs.<\/p>\n

Cook has been openly seeking a contract extension for $15 million per year this offseason, heading into the final season of his current deal. The Bills aren’t biting.<\/p>\n

The Rams have spoken more positively about their negotiations with Williams, who is also heading into his last contract season. But still, no deal is done yet there, either.<\/p>\n

They could both be trending toward the same spot, a franchise tag next offseason. Two contending teams won’t necessarily want to let their star running backs get away, although that happens more and more in the modern NFL.<\/p>\n

If they are to be franchised next offseason, they could be looking at about $14 million in tag value, per Pro Football Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Bills and Rams both have a younger rusher up next on the depth chart, too, with Ray Davis and Blake Corum, respectively.<\/p>\n

Big seasons in 2025 by Cook and Williams will only complicate matters.<\/p>\n

These are two backfields definitely worth watching.<\/p>\n
