OXNARD, Calif. \u2014 The sudden restructuring of leadership atop the NFLPA saw another change Sunday, leaving players, including ones on the Dallas Cowboys<\/a>, waiting to see what\u2019s next. <\/p>\n

J.C. Tretter, a former NFL offensive lineman, stepped down from his position as the union\u2019s chief strategy officer. He also withdrew from consideration to be the interim executive director after the resignation of former director Lloyd Howell. <\/p>\n

Tretter was reportedly one of two major candidates to replace Howell, who drew immense scrutiny prior to his resignation this weekend. ESPN, in a series of stories, reported multiple allegations against Howell, including him being in a consulting role with a private equity firm that holds league approval to seek minority ownership in NFL franchises, and his alleged involvement in an agreement between the NFLPA and NFL to keep quiet about possible collusion by owners over quarterback salaries.<\/p>\n

The Athletic reported<\/a> Tretter and Don Davis, the NFLPA\u2019s Chief Player Officer, were the two favorites to replace Howell. Tretter received blowback from former players about his potential involvement in what happened with the NFLPA.<\/p>\n

Tretter told CBS Sports<\/a> on Sunday that the attention on him had become hard on his family and that\u2019s something he couldn\u2019t deal with anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no interest in being [executive director],\u201d Tretter told CBS Sports<\/a>. \u201cI have no interest in being considered; I\u2019ve let the executive committee know that. I\u2019m also going to leave the NFLPA in the coming days because I don\u2019t have anything left to give the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

Player reps from each of the teams have reportedly met since Howell\u2019s resignation to discuss a potential replacement. <\/p>\n

Cowboys defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa<\/a>, a player rep for the team, said he\u2019s been aware of all the changes and happenings with NFLPA leadership, though he didn\u2019t want to discuss specifics more. <\/p>\n

Odighizuwa was asked about what the changes can do for not only player representatives, but also the rest of the players in the league. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s interesting, but I wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s hard,\u201d Odighizuwa said. \u201cCompartmentalization is the name of the game. Been doing it for a little while, so I just address it as it comes. We\u2019ve got to focus on what we\u2019ve got to focus on and cross that bridge when we get there.\u201d<\/p>\n
