The Carolina Panthers have come to terms on the release<\/a> of former Denver Broncos linebacker Josey Jewell<\/a>, just a little over one year after signing him to a three-year, $22.75 million deal in free agency last offseason.<\/p>\n

Jewell, a fourth-round pick out of Iowa in 2018, spent six seasons in Denver before signing with the Panthers last year. He is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms stemming from an injury he suffered in Week 16 last season, and wants to take some time to prioritize his health, while also being considerate of his teammates.<\/p>\n

He played in 78 games in Denver, making 58 starts. He registered 453 total tackles, nine sacks, seven fumble recoveries and two interceptions. Those two interceptions came in the same game, which took place on December 11, 2022, against none other than Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.<\/p>\n

The Broncos filled Jewell’s spot by signing Cody Barton in free agency. Barton played well, but when Alex Singleton tore his ACL in Week 4, the team was forced to turn to Justin Strnad. Barton is now also gone, signing with the Titans<\/a> this offseason, but the Broncos decided to go after a potentially huge upgrade by signing Dre Greenlaw.<\/p>\n

For Jewell, his playing future seems uncertain. He will now weigh his options in regards to ever stepping on a field again.<\/p>\n

He played well in Carolina last season, racking up 97 tackles with 3.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception. But he is 30 years old now and concussions are not something to take chances with, especially if he is still experiencing symptoms seven months later.<\/p>\n
