On Wednesday morning, the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> returned to the practice field at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph for the second full practice of the team\u2019s 2025 training camp.<\/p>\n

This was the second of 17 sessions scheduled for the team\u2019s practice field next to MWSU\u2019s Spratt Stadium. 14 of the remaining practices will be open to the public \u2014 click here for details and a full schedule<\/a> \u2014 while one more will be open only to the team\u2019s Season Ticket Members.<\/p>\n

Arrowhead Pride editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney was there. He posted some observations<\/a> on social media \u2014 starting with a hotter day on the practice field<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A hotter day in St. Joe for the second practice, sunny with temperatures in the low 80s as practice began and rising to the mid-80s by the workout’s conclusion. The Chiefs continue ramping up, so this one went about an hour and a half.<\/p>\n

For the second straight day, only those on the PUP list missed out on practice<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Player attendance mirrored Tuesday, with the only players missing being those on the PUP list: CB Kristian Fulton (knee), RT Jawaan Taylor (knee) and TE Tre Watson.<\/p>\n

Wednesday also mirrored Tuesday in how the team handled those absences<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For the second straight day, Josh Simmons took all the reps at left tackle while Jaylon Moore worked at right tackle. <\/p>\n

At cornerback, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson were the outside top-team corners with Chamarri Conner inside.<\/p>\n

Pete checked in with the defensive coordinator<\/a> on what we can expect from the third-year safety.<\/p>\n

For those curious, I asked DC Steve Spagnuolo how he sees Conner’s role evolving after practice: \u201cI\u2019m really excited about Chamarri I just watch him out there. He\u2019s become a little bit of a multiple-position guy, which is a good thing… You\u2019re certainly going to see him at\u2026<\/p>\n

In 7-on-7s, Pete saw solid plays from two veteran wideouts<\/a> \u2014 the first one of whom is new to the team for 2025.<\/p>\n

In the opening 7-on-7 period, WR Tyquan Thornton made a tough catch from QB Patrick Mahomes at the left sideline, falling to his back as he secured the ball. After a quick pass, WR Rashee Rice spun around quickly, a clear sign to me that the knee is 100%.<\/p>\n

Then a second-year reserve cornerback made a play<\/a> against the new backup quarterback…<\/p>\n

Against QB Gardner Minshew in 7-on-7, CB Chris Roland-Wallace recorded a diving pass breakup.<\/p>\n

…and the starter provided some evidence for one of Pete\u2019s choices<\/a> in his first 53-man roster projection.<\/p>\n

To finish the period, Mahomes showcased his unique arm talent with a running sidearm TD pass to rookie TE Jake Briningstool. We had Briningstool in our initial 53-man projection. https:\/\/t.co\/jh1zWS7EGl<\/a><\/p>\n

As we expected, the team continued to emphasize Mahomes going deep<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For the second straight day, Mahomes completed a deep shot, this one during 11-on-11s down the left sideline to WR Hollywood Brown (with both Watson and S Bryan Cook in pursuit). The emphasis on deep passing has been there in these first two looks.<\/p>\n

Cook spoke about how this development is making Mahomes happy: “Anybody at any given time can go deep at any alignment, so for us, I think just having awareness of who’s on the field and where they at is definitely going to help our [football] IQ for sure.”<\/p>\n

Then the quarterback tried some Mahomes Magic\u2122<\/a><\/p>\n

Three plays later, Mahomes threw an incredible sidearm pass to Rice, who dived on the ball to make the catch. These two already look like they are picking up where they left off in Week 4 last year, though we do expect a suspension announcement at some point.<\/p>\n

And an exciting rookie running back channeled Damien Williams in Super Bowl LIV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mahomes concluded 11-on-11 with what looked like a wheel to RB Brashard Smith, a dangerous prospect for opponents considering that sub-4.4 speed.<\/p>\n
