Broncos Wire<\/a>‘s 90-man offseason roster<\/a> series continues today with a look at fourth-year tight end Lucas Krull, No. 85.<\/p>\n

Before the Broncos<\/a>: Krull (6-6, 260 pounds) began his college career as a baseball player for Jefferson College for two years (2017-18), where he played well enough<\/a> to be selected by the San Francisco Giants<\/a> as a southpaw pitcher in the 34th round of the 2018 MLB draft. Aside from baseball, Krull played 34 combined college football games (11 starts) for the Florida Gators<\/a> (2018-19) and Pittsburgh Panthers<\/a> (2020-21). Krull was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints<\/a> prior to the 2022 season, and he played in one game.<\/p>\n

Broncos<\/a> tenure: After being waived by the Saints following training camp in 2023, Krull joined the Denver Broncos<\/a>‘ practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster in December and appeared in seven games (starting two), drawing 14 targets, totaling eight receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown. Krull played both on offense and special teams.<\/p>\n

Krull retained his spot on the 2024 Broncos’ roster, when he played in 13 games, starting two games. In those 13 games, Krull led the Broncos in tight end targets (23) and receptions (19) for 194 yards. In Denver’s lone playoff game, Krull also caught one pass for two yards. In 2024, Krull played over 130 snaps on special teams, and nearly 300 snaps on offense (PFR<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Toss-up. It is expected free agent signee Evan Engram will take the majority of tight end targets, but Krull is also a veteran with valuable experience in Sean Payton’s offense. With Krull’s ability to play special teams, the 27-year-old tight end has a chance to stick on the active roster in 2025, but he’s not a lock.<\/p>\n
