On Thursday morning, the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> returned to the practice field at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph for the third full practice of the team\u2019s 2025 training camp.<\/p>\n

This was the third of 17 sessions scheduled for the team\u2019s practice field next to MWSU\u2019s Spratt Stadium. 13 of the remaining practices will be open to the public \u2014 click here for details and a full schedule<\/a> \u2014 while one more will be open only to the team\u2019s Season Ticket Members.<\/p>\n

Arrowhead Pride editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney was there. He posted some observations<\/a> on social media \u2014 starting with a cloudy, cooler day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A hotter day in St. Joe for the second practice, sunny with temperatures in the low 80s as practice began and rising to the mid-80s by the workout’s conclusion. The Chiefs continue ramping up, so this one went about an hour and a half.<\/p>\n

For the third straight day, only those on the PUP list missed out on practice<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs’ attendance remains static, with only the PUP players working off to the side: CB Kristian Fulton, OL Jawaan Taylor and TE Tre Watson.<\/p>\n

Pete noted Thursday\u2019s first and second strings<\/a> for the offensive linemen and the cornerbacks.<\/p>\n

Kansas City\u2019s quarterback went right to work with his top target<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Two of Patrick Mahomes’ first four passes in 11-on-11 went to WR Rashee Rice. I thought Conner and McDuffie looked good in coverage.<\/p>\n

A pair of defenders made some good plays against the backup quarterback<\/a>.<\/p>\n

DL Charles Omenihu batted down a Gardner Minshew pass. Minshew’s final pass of the period went to WR Jimmy Holiday, but it was poked out by CB Melvin Smith.<\/p>\n

The placekicker had another good day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the field-goal period, K Harrison Butker was 7 of 8, making from 57 before missing from 67. KR Nikko Remigio was back for the long miss as the unit practiced returning a field goal from the end zone.<\/p>\n

Then the team moved on to 7-on-7 drills<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The next 7-on-7 period featured tight ends and running backs. Watson broke up a Mahomes pass intended for RB Kareem Hunt. Mahomes had two connections to WR Hollywood Brown and one to WR Xavier Worthy in his next turn.<\/p>\n

Mahomes finished the 7-on-7 period with a RZ touchdown just inside the front right pylon to WR Tyquan Thornton, who high pointed and brough in the ball for the touchdown. We included Thornton on our initial 53-man projection (https:\/\/t.co\/jh1zWS8cvT<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Next, it was time for 11-on-11s<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The final 11-on-11 period saw Mahomes throw two quick passes to WR Jalen Royals and Brown. Brown stretched out his body to haul in a ball that probably shouldn’t have been caught.<\/p>\n

During the same period, Thornton nearly made a fantastic catch on a deep out-breaking route, but it looked like he lost it on the way to ground. The next play, Mahomes hit Brown on a deep post downfield. Brown broke free from Conner, who looked like he had no chance on the play.<\/p>\n

In his final turn for 11s, Mahomes sidearmed a pass to Brown that floated up perfectly, with the receiver catching the ball in stride and turning upfield. A good day for Brown, in my view. <\/p>\n

Mahomes’ final pass intended for WR Jason Brownlee was broken up by CB Nazeeh Johnson.<\/p>\n

After three practices, Pete believes we\u2019re getting some idea of which players have a chance at the first string<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I jotted down a list of notable players getting work with the first teams: <\/p>\n

Offense: Briningstool, Moore, Royals, Smith, Thornton

Andy Reid on Briningstool: “Brett (Veach) gets the credit for that one. He loved him, loved what he saw and so far, the kid has done a nice job. Again, let’s see how he does when things get going. He’s working in there, looks like the quarterbacks trust him. They’re throwing it\u2026<\/p>\n

Reid on Royals: “He looks like he’s very smart, during our third install here today. We load up him up with plays early, and he’s been able to retain a lot of the things: the newer stuff from before and the new stuff we’ve introduced now. That’s a good sign. He’s made some\u2026<\/p>\n

Reid on Thornton: “I like what I’ve seen. He’s working hard at it. He’s made some big catches out here, working his routes, playing physical in his transition game. Just got to keep coming. We’re still young in this thing, so we’ve got to keep bringing it here.”<\/p>\n

The next practice (expected to be a light one) will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. Arrowhead Time. As always, we will have live updates after practice begins. After practice concludes, defensive backs will sign autographs, while special teams coordinator Dave Toub will be among those speaking to the press.<\/p>\n

The team will take a day off on Saturday. On Sunday, everyone gets back to work \u2014 and they\u2019ll be wearing pads.<\/p>\n
