The Seattle Seahawks continued their first week of training camp on a rare cloudy day in Renton. This was the first camp available to all Seahawks fans instead of season ticket holders, so the doors were opened a little more for the public as far as what lies ahead for the 2025 season. It\u2019s also the penultimate practice without pads before the physicality really ratchets up on Monday.<\/p>\n

Shaquill Griffin stepping away from training camp<\/p>\n
All the best to the returning Seahawks cornerback, who missed Wednesday\u2019s practice due to illness, returned on Thursday, but will be away from the team for a little bit to tend to a personal matter.<\/p>\n

The 12 Flag raising now applies to training camp<\/p>\n
It\u2019s tradition for the Seahawks to raise the 12 Flag before every game at Lumen Field, whether in preseason, regular season, or postseason. We can now add training camp to the list! Warren Moon raised the flag on Wednesday and Robert Turbin got the honors on Friday.<\/p>\n

Christian Haynes is in the center competition<\/p>\n
The Seahawks have a lot of bodies vying for starting spots at center and right guard, the only positions along the offensive line without a clear-cut starter. There\u2019s been a lot of attention focused on Christian Haynes and whether he can beat out Anthony Bradford (and others) at right guard, but it\u2019s now been revealed by Mike Macdonald that Haynes may have a future at center. Emphasis on may, as he\u2019s not in front of Olu Oluwatimi and Jalen Sundell.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019d say [he\u2019s in the mix to be starting center],\u201d Macdonald said in his media availability.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we started giving him [center] snaps toward the end of spring. Keep the competition open and see what happens. I\u2019d say right now [Oluwatimi and Sundell] are ahead of Christian.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jarran Reed thinks Byron Murphy II has DPOY potential<\/p>\n
After a solid but unspectacular rookie season, there\u2019s great expectation that Byron Murphy II will have a more impactful year that also shows up on the stat sheet. Veteran defensive tackle Jarran Reed had lofty praise for his teammate.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my mind, I can see him being Defensive Player of the Year,\u201d Reed said. \u201cHe\u2019s a great guy, he works hard, he listens, he\u2019s strong as shit. He\u2019s strong as shit, he\u2019s fast, and he\u2019s strong as shit. I don\u2019t think [anybody\u2019s] going to be able to block him, for real.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was no follow-up question regarding how strong Byron Murphy II is.<\/p>\n
The last time a Seahawks player won DPOY was the late Cortez Kennedy in the otherwise cursed 1992 season. That tells you how great \u2018Tez was that he could win that award on a 2-14 team.<\/p>\n
Panic (Not really)! Another Sam Darnold interception!<\/p>\n
The beauty of training camp is the experimentation. There will be wins for the offense, wins for the defense, and a lot of hot takes generated. Darnold has been intercepted consecutive days in similar situations, but it\u2019s not the worst thing in the world. There will be picks, there will be sacks, there will be dimes, there will be touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Jaxon Smith-Njigba teases the \u201cRivalries\u201d jerseys<\/p>\n
And now for the humor portion of training camp. We\u2019ll need to wait a month until we see the new \u201cRivalries\u201d unis for the Seahawks, which won\u2019t be worn until Week 16 against the Los Angeles Rams, but the former Ohio State star has taken a look, and he likes what he sees.<\/p>\n
\u201cY\u2019all are gonna like the jerseys,\u201d Smith-Njigba said. \u201cThey look really clean. Even the guys that have no swag will look good out there. It\u2019s a good jersey, that\u2019s all I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to point them out but, Olu and a lot of Michigan guys, I ain\u2019t gonna lie.\u201d<\/p>\n
