Do the Chicago Bears still have a problem at quarterback? For much of their existence, the organization has suffered from inadequate play under center, as evidenced by the fact that they’ve never had a passer eclipse 4,000 yards in a season.<\/p>\n

But after landing former Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams to be their new signal-caller, the Bears looked ready to compete in the daunting NFC. Williams wasn’t spectacular as a rookie, but he had plenty of flashes of brilliance.<\/p>\n

Instead of taking a second-year leap, the word out of training camp is that Williams is severely struggling<\/a>, leading one national talking head to put the young gunslinger on blast.<\/p>\n

While on a recent episode of his show “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd raised doubts about Williams’ status as a future superstar.<\/p>\n

“Three days in a row it’s gotten a bit of a bump for Williams,” Cowherd said.<\/a> “He was sold as a generational talent, and we were all hoping it’d be this generation. How long do you want us to wait? Quarterbacks in 2025 are a bit like streaming shows\u2014if you’re not getting me early by the second episode, I’m out. He’s got to be good by early October.”<\/p>\n

There are recent examples of first-round quarterbacks taking years to develop across multiple teams before finally becoming quality starters: Geno Smith, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield all come to mind. But each of those names was a member of a disastrous franchise with limited offensive talent around them.<\/p>\n

At this point, Williams has one of the best supporting casts in the league, with a guru for a head coach in Ben Johnson, ready to craft an attack to fit his skillset.<\/p>\n

If he fails in this ideal situation, when will it click for him<\/a>?<\/p>\n

Setting a date that he has to perform by is a bit hyperbolic, but if the Bears don’t at least contend for a Wild Card spot, Williams’ stint in Chicago could end prematurely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Do the Chicago Bears still have a problem at quarterback?
