ESPN\u2019s Brady Henderson reported<\/a> that McIntosh hurt his left leg during a special teams period and had to be \u201cessentially carried\u201d off the field with a team staffer on either side of him. McIntosh couldn\u2019t put any weight on his leg, according to Henderson.<\/p>\n McIntosh, a 2023 seventh-round draft pick out of Georgia, was expected to battle rookie seventh-round pick Damien Martinez for Seattle\u2019s third running back role. McIntosh also was expected to be in the mix as a kick returner.<\/p>\n McIntosh missed most of his 2023 rookie season after suffering a knee injury during training camp. He didn\u2019t get his first NFL carry until Week 3 of 2024 and struggled to earn offensive snaps for most of last year while stuck behind Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet on the depth chart.<\/p>\n But when Walker missed four of the final five games last season due to injuries, McIntosh showed some promise while filling in as Seattle\u2019s backup running back. He finished last year with 172 yards on 31 carries for an average of 5.5 yards per attempt. He also had three catches for 22 yards and six kick returns for an average of 25.5 yards per return.<\/p>\n If McIntosh is out for the season, the 6-foot, 217-pound Martinez becomes the front-runner for Seattle\u2019s third running back role. Martinez rushed for a combined 3,169 yards, 6.2 yards per carry and 26 touchdowns over his standout three-year college career at Oregon State and Miami.<\/p>\n Martinez was one of the best tackle-breaking running backs<\/a> in college football last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Among all FBS running backs with at least 150 carries, Martinez ranked third in yards after contact per attempt (4.46)<\/a>, per PFF. He trailed only No. 6 overall draft pick Ashton Jeanty of Boise State (5.25) and fourth-round pick Bhayshul Tuten of Virginia Tech (4.47).<\/p>\n Second-year pro George Holani also could be in the mix.
