SANTA CLARA \u2013 Brock Purdy\u2019s momentous reason for bypassing Friday\u2019s practice<\/a> at 49ers training camp: Fatherhood.<\/p>\n

Purdy and his wife, Jenna, announced the birth of their daughter, Millie Joleen, on Monday via an Instagram post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLife just became a whole lot sweeter,\u201d Jenna wrote in the caption as she embraced her baby with her husband by their side.<\/p>\n

The Iowa State sweethearts married 16 months ago<\/a> in Des Moines, Iowa. Her pregnancy was kept relatively out of the public spotlight.<\/p>\n

Two weeks ago, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey also became a first-time dad<\/a> as he and wife, Olivia Culpo, announced the arrival of their daughter, Colette.<\/p>\n

Coach Kyle Shanahan hinted<\/a> after Sunday\u2019s practice that Purdy had become a father, stating: \u201cYeah, Brock had some family stuff yesterday, all good news. I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll tell you guys when he talks to you guys next. But yeah, Brock was back and didn\u2019t miss a beat and it was a good day off for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Purdy, the 262nd and final pick of the 2022 draft, signed the largest contract in 49ers history in May, a five-year, $265 million pact that put him among the 10 highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.<\/p>\n

Saturday was the 49ers\u2019 first day off at camp, which opened Tuesday and was followed by three straight days of practice. Purdy took part in Wednesday\u2019s and Thursday\u2019s sessions, and he returned for Sunday morning\u2019s practice following Millie\u2019s birth. Monday is the 49ers\u2019 first practice in full pads.<\/p>\n

Mac Jones and Tanner Mordecai are the only other active quarterbacks on the 49ers\u2019 roster and they handled Friday\u2019s workload well, although each had a pass intercepted.<\/p>\n

The 49ers open their season Sept. 7 in Seattle, where Purdy is 3-0 against the Seahawks. The preseason starts Aug. 9 at Levi\u2019s Stadium against the Denver Broncos, who will conduct a joint practice with the 49ers two days earlier.<\/p>\n
