Council approve a deal\u201d for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/04\/28\/commanders-dc-reach-37b-deal-for-roofed-stadium-at-rfk-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/04\/28\/commanders-dc-reach-37b-deal-for-roofed-stadium-at-rfk-site\/\">$3.8B stadium complex at the RFK campus<\/a> &#8212; including \u201cmillions in business subsidies and the assumption of cost overruns,\u201d according to Ben Peters of the WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL. The concessions package was \u201csent in the form of a letter to councilmembers as a final push to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/07\/20\/pressure-building-for-dc-council-to-approve-rfk-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/07\/20\/pressure-building-for-dc-council-to-approve-rfk-deal\/\">get the deal over the finish line<\/a>.\u201d It arrived on the eve of a hearing on Wednesday where Commanders officials, including team President Mark Clouse and Head of Real Estate Andy VanHorn &#8212; along with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser &#8212; \u201ctestified in support of the deal.\u201d The team offered that it would \u201cassume responsibility for all cost overruns for the stadium and parking projects\u201d and \u201cdevelop the campus with \u2018diverse uses in mind.\u2019\u201d Those include, but are \u201cnot limited to, a skate park, a dog park, public plazas, \u2018traditional parks\u2019 and other open spaces.\u201d The Commanders would invest $10M in \u201cgrocery and local business subsidies in Ward 7\u201d &#8212; where the RFK campus is located &#8212; \u201cover a 10-year period, including at least $500,000 with local community development organizations.\u201d The team also offered that it would \u201cdevelop a parking plan \u2018that does not preclude the construction of a new infill Metrorail station.\u2019\u201d The concession package and hearing follows the team last week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/07\/23\/report-dc-council-chair-commanders-agree-to-adjust-stadium-deal-terms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/07\/23\/report-dc-council-chair-commanders-agree-to-adjust-stadium-deal-terms\/\">reaching an amended deal<\/a> with D.C.
