New York Jets<\/a> sophomore offensive tackle Olu Fashanu has to be a core performer for the offense this season. As a rookie, the former Penn State standout entered the 2024 campaign as a backup. Now an unquestioned starter following Tyron Smith’s departure, Fashanu has officially began his era as the Jets’ franchise left tackle.<\/p>\n

Fashanu has been as advertised at this year’s training camp. The second-year blocker arguably had his best practice session on Thursday, according to various reports. NBC Sports’ Connor Rogers was especially impressed, calling Fashanu a “franchise left tackle” after watching Thursday’s padded practice.<\/p>\n

If the Jets’ offense is effective in 2025, it’ll likely be because the offensive line dominates in the trenches. Fashanu’s performance is essential to that projection becoming reality. Fashanu has looked capable of meeting expectations since the pads came on at training camp. That’s excellent news.<\/p>\n

Fashanu played 534 total offensive snaps last year, earning significant time at both left and right tackle due to injuries. That placed him in a tough spot, and he occasionally struggled. Fashanu was credited with allowing 23 pressures and was whistled for a sloppy seven penalties.<\/p>\n

Now focused on left tackle, his natural position, on a full-time basis, Fashanu is thriving. The Jets need their ascending LT to become a core performer and face-of-the-franchise type offensive lineman. All signs indicate Fashanu will take a big-time step forward in 2025.<\/p>\n
