The Los Angeles Chargers have had a rollercoaster of an offseason, but for the time being things are trending upwards.<\/p>\n

It began about a week before free agency when general manager Joe Hortiz revealed a bold free agency strategy that would see the Chargers punt on high-profile players for the sake of maintaining their depth and balance.<\/p>\n

The need for a pass catcher in Los Angeles was glaringly obvious, but Hortiz frustrated the fanbase once more by expressing his belief in drafting the best player available instead of seeking out a specific position.<\/p>\n

He stuck to his word, but luckily Chargers fans loved the pick.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles selected North Carolina Tar Heels running back Omarion Hampton in the first round of the draft in a move that exhilarated the fans.<\/p>\n

While they would have preferred to snatch one of the premiere wide receivers or tight ends, the Chargers offense just needs playmakers and Hampton is certainly one.<\/p>\n

He has a rare blend of speed and physicality for a running back and the potential to develop into an every down back.<\/p>\n

He will likely split reps with Najee Harris for his first season at least, but at some point, he will become the bell cow.<\/p>\n

The rookie was recently interviewed about his thoughts on playing for head coach Jim Harbaugh<\/a> and he had this to say, \u201cWith him being my head coach, I couldn\u2019t be more happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t surprising to hear because Harbaugh has made a reputation for himself as a player\u2019s coach.<\/p>\n

He does his best to shield his players from criticism and take accountability for his team\u2019s shortcomings which makes players want to run through a wall for him.<\/p>\n

This offseason had a chance to devolve into catastrophe for the Chargers, but they seem to have steadied the ship.<\/p>\n
