He consistently talked about adding a different skill set to their dynamic tandem of Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, and in the late rounds of the 2025 NFL draft, they did just that.

With their final pick in the sixth round, No. 188, Tennessee selected linebacker-turned-running back Kalel Mullings out of Michigan.

The 6-foot-2, 226-pound bruiser is an intriguing prospect with tremendous upside. A true north-south runner who fills a void in the Titans’ offense, which lacked power and sometimes struggled in short yardage. His blend of size and burst is a handful for defenders, and he excels between the tackles.

Mullings is raw and could struggle as a receiver in the passing game. To take on a bigger workload, he must refine his pass-catching skills and route-running. He comes to the NFL with a complete lack of experience in the backfield, with only one season of full-time running back experience at Michigan. He made the most of his only season in the backfield, running the ball 185 times for 948 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Because of his defensive background, Mullings should be able to find his way into a core special-teams role early in his career while working on his skill set as a running back. He has the traits to develop into more than a short-yardage back if given time, and could be a tremendous value pick for Tennessee.

With Pollard and Spears entrenched in the backfield, Mullings must compete with reserve Julius Chestnut for a spot on the depth chart. Tennessee re-signed Chestnut to a one-year deal in March.

This article originally appeared on Titans Wire: Titans draft Kalel Mullings: Scouting report

Throughout the offseason, Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan discussed adding to the running back room.
