2. The Chiefs worked on driving the full length of the field on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
It doesn’t get any longer than the “long drive drill” the Chiefs worked through on Tuesday as the offense began the period at its own 1-yard line.<\/p>\n
A “long drive drill” segment of practice, which seeks to simulate the real-world experience of playing in a game, challenges both sides of the ball with a series of plays ran in quick succession one after the other. Just like in a real game, the time between snaps is limited and substitutions only occur if the play design dictates it.<\/p>\n
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the first-team offense went on to run 15 plays during Tuesday’s period, which included a tremendous throw where Mahomes moved to his right before zipping a pass across the field and into the arms of wide receiver Xavier Worthy. It was an awesome play that Mahomes has \u2013 somehow \u2013 normalized over the years.<\/p>\n
Often considered one of the toughest \u2013 but most beneficial \u2013 drills of camp, Tuesday’s “long drive drill” may come in handy if the Chiefs are faced with a 99-yard field at some point during the 2025 campaign.<\/p>\n
3. Veteran wide receiver Tyquan Thornton had another strong day.<\/p>\n
One of the standouts of training camp so far, Thornton continued his strong summer with another impressive practice on Tuesday. Notably, Thornton made a pair of outstanding catches during 7-on-7 drills that elicited cheers from the more than 5,000 fans in attendance.<\/p>\n
The first catch featured Thornton making a smooth, over-the-shoulder grab deep down the sideline as the veteran receiver hauled in a beautiful throw from Patrick Mahomes. He then followed that up a bit later with a full-extension grab amidst traffic on another perfectly placed ball.<\/p>\n
A former second-round pick with blazing speed (and still just 24 years old), Thornton is certainly making his case for a roster spot with another impressive day in St. Joseph.<\/p>\n
“You get these opportunities to make plays, and he has done that,” said Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy. “I think there’s a lot of trust building right now between him and Pat. He’s a smart kid.
