In fact, Griffin took to social media recently to express his belief that Sanders is “being set up to fail” by the organization.

“Shedeur Sanders is being set up to fail in Cleveland,” Griffin wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “But God’s got him showing out even with limited reps.”

Griffin’s comments came on the same day it was reported that the Browns had made Sanders the fourth-string QB on the depth chart. He even found himself below fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.

Of course, Gabriel was a third-round pick compared to Sanders being drafted in the fifth round, but even that in itself was surprising. Sanders came into the draft projected as either a first or second-round pick before plummeting down boards.

ESPN also reported that through the first nine practices, Sanders had taken the third-most reps of the fourth quarterbacks. Only Kenny Pickett, who spent a good portion of training camp injured, had less.

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco was listed as the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart but is not expected to play in the preseason opener. Sanders was listed as the starter for that game against Carolina on Friday with both Pickett and Gabriel injured.

That throws a bit of a wrench into Robert Griffin’s theory that the Browns aren’t giving Shedeur Sanders any chances. Perhaps Sanders can move up the depth chart based on his play in that game.

Mike Tannenbaum calls for Browns to start Shedeur Sanders over Dillon Gabriel

With training camp underway, so is the quarterback battle in Cleveland. Amid it, former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum shared that he feels that Shedeur Sanders should ultimately start games for the Browns ahead of Dillon Gabriel, with Gabriel’s height being a key reason why.

“Guys, Shedeur Sanders,” Mike Tannenbaum said. “This is a no-brainer. I want you to take some copious notes here. Since 2000, there’s only been six quarterbacks start a game under six feet tall. That’s Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Bryce Young, PJ Walker, Seneca Wallace, and Doug Flutie. Exactly. So, to me, even though Dillon Gabriel went in the third round, I would start Shedeur Sanders. Let them fight it out on the field, but to me, Shedeur Sanders has the better pro body and more upside.”

In college, but Gabriel and Sanders put up massive numbers last season. That saw Gabriel throw for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 72.9 percent of passes. For his part, Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns while completing 74 percent of his passes.

On3’s Dan Morrison contributed to this report.

Robert Griffin III doesn’t like the way the Cleveland Browns are handling Shedeur Sanders.
