OXFORD, Miss. \u2014 It\u2019s not often a third-string quarterback gets headlines, but when that quarterback is Jaxson Dart\u2014former Rebel QB1 and all-time winningest Ole Miss signal caller \u2014 Rebels certainly take note.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday morning, the New York Giants released their initial training camp depth chart<\/a>, and Dart, the team\u2019s prized first-round pick, checked in at QB3. The Giants traded back into the first round this spring to secure the former Ole Miss star, fully expecting him to be the future of the franchise.<\/p>\n But that future doesn\u2019t have to start in Week One.<\/p>\n With Wilson entrenched as the starter and Winston offering veteran insurance, New York is affording Dart what many rookie quarterbacks don\u2019t get these days: time. It\u2019s not about where he starts on paper; it\u2019s about preparing him to take the reins when the moment is right.<\/p>\n And don\u2019t forget\u2014Winston holding onto the QB2 spot could also be a strategic move.
