Former Clemson star Hunter Renfrow is dealing with an injury that has kept him out of practice for about a week.<\/p>\n

Renfrow, who signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers back in April, is tending to a hamstring injury. He is still not practicing, but Panthers head coach Dave Canales said on Tuesday that Renfrow is making progress in his recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is doing great,\u201d Canales told reporters<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s in return-to-play right now with our training department. He\u2019s running, he\u2019s cutting. I think it\u2019s just the load of practice that we\u2019re just trying to be smart on, and making sure that we get him completely healthy so we can really see him in these games. And I feel really strongly that he\u2019s there, but I think it\u2019s more of a capacity thing. We just don\u2019t want to take him through a full day\u2019s work, throw him into team settings and just forget about the fact that we had something come up. But he\u2019s doing great right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Canales added that the Panthers \u201chave not made the decision\u201d about whether Renfrow will play in the team\u2019s first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns in Charlotte on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Per Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer, Renfrow wasn\u2019t in pads again Wednesday, marking the fifth missed practice for the 29-year-old wideout.<\/p>\n

Renfrow has been impressive when he\u2019s been able to practice during training camp. Canales recently called Renfrow \u201ca great story\u201d as he returns to action after missing all of the 2024 season while dealing with\u00a0health challenges<\/a>\u00a0stemming from a diagnosis of the autoimmune condition ulcerative colitis.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just the Hunter Renfrow I remember,\u201d Canales said of the 2019 fifth-round pick. \u201cHe looks healthy. I think everyone who\u2019s watched football over the last four or five years remembers what he looks like, and he\u2019s really playing at top form right now. I\u2019m really excited to have him here and to have his family, which is right down the road here after this practice, to be able to just connect with him. And it\u2019s a great story that\u2019s unfolding right in front our eyes, so it\u2019s really exciting to see him playing out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Renfrow recorded 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns across his five seasons with the Raiders from 2019-23.<\/p>\n
