Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur stated in his pre-practice press conference that he won\u2019t be calling plays this preseason. This has been a trend over his years in Green Bay, as he\u2019s used the preseason as a play-calling showcase for the offensive assistants under him who are hoping to get play-calling opportunities elsewhere.<\/p>\n
Considering that offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich received interest as a play-calling offensive coordinator last offseason, he\u2019s a safe bet to at least get a good share of those shots this summer. So keep that in mind this preseason.<\/p>\n
Speaking of preseason, today\u2019s practice is the Packers\u2019 penultimate camp practice before their opener against the New York Jets on Saturday. Thursday will be their last open practice before camp walls start to be built up. After the preseason begins, Green Bay will only host three more open practices until the regular season officially kicks off.<\/p>\n
So how did the Packers look today? Let\u2019s get into it.<\/p>\n
Green Bay got good news on the injury front today as left tackle Rasheed Walker (groin) and defensive end Arron Mosby (groin) returned to the field. The players who remain out in practice are running back Emanuel Wilson (knee), running back MarShawn Lloyd (groin), receiver Christian Watson (knee), receiver Dontayvion Wicks (calf), offensive lineman Travis Glover (shoulder), offensive lineman John Williams (back), defensive end Collin Oliver (hamstring), cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) and cornerback Kamal Hadden (hip).<\/p>\n
There was some pretty good back-and-forths between receiver Romeo Doubs and cornerback Carrington Valentine today. As the Green Bay Press-Gazette\u2019s Ryan Wood noted<\/a>, Doubs caught a go route touchdown in one-on-ones versus Valentine, followed up by a DPI from Valentine and then eventually a pass breakup on the same type of route that Doubs previously scored on.<\/p>\n Unfortunately for Valentine, Doubs got the last laugh: a two-point conversion catch in a competitive red zone period.<\/p>\n The offense seemed to do relatively well today, considering that defenses usually have the edge in training camp. Practice ended with a touchdown pass<\/a> to tight end John FitzPatrick, who caught a ball against safety Zayne Anderson in that same red zone period.<\/p>\n Despite the Packers\u2019 claim on their first depth chart of the year<\/a> that the third linebacker job is Isaiah McDuffie\u2019s, Isaiah Simmons continues to push McDuffie now that Quay Walker has reported to the field. According to Packers.com\u2019s Mike Spofford<\/a>, the two linebackers were \u201ctrading off as third linebacker,\u201d and both were \u201cout there when Walker exits.\u201d<\/p>\n If there\u2019s any \u201cstarting\u201d job up for grabs right now, especially following Nate Hobbs\u2019 surgery<\/a>, it\u2019s the third linebacker spot. Keep an eye on this situation throughout the summer.<\/p>\n Rookie defensive tackle Warren Brinson, who was taken late in the 2025 draft, dropped out of practice today with what The Athletic\u2019s Matt Schneidman<\/a> called an injury to \u201csomething above the shoulder.\u201d Brinson got checked out by head trainer Bryan \u201cFlea\u201d Engel before walking to the Packers\u2019 indoor facility with an assistant trainer.<\/p>\n Packer Report\u2019s Andy Herman noted<\/a> that fourth-round rookie defensive end Barryn Sorrell was kicked into an inside alignment in obvious pass-rushing situations. That wasn\u2019t something we were able to get a look at during the Packers\u2019 Family Night practice, so it\u2019s good to know that it\u2019s an option for Sorrell.<\/p>\n Elsewhere on the defensive line, both Colby Wooden and undrafted rookie Nazir Stackhouse received opportunities with the number one defense today<\/a>. The starting jobs on the interior will ultimately go to Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt<\/a>, but this is a good temperature check for understanding how Green Bay feels about their depth at the position.<\/p>\n Defensive end Lukas Van Ness appears to be taking the next step, too. On one series where the offense was working from a backed-up situation, Van Ness registered a sack and safety on the first play of the drive<\/a> and then later posted a stuff against the run.<\/p>\n
