On Wednesday, GM Brad Holmes was asked if there was any interest in a reunion between Smith and the Lions during his appearance on 97.1 The Ticket\u2019s \u2018Costa and Jansen with Heather.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cZa\u2019Darius [Smith] did a lot of good things last year for us, and we said we\u2019re going to keep in contact with his agent,\u201d Holmes said of the team\u2019s communication with the former Lion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cBut everything\u2019s not just one-sided,\u201d Holmes continued. \u201cZa\u2019Darius has expectations, the team has expectations, so sometimes it takes a while for those things to get on the same page. Especially a guy, you know, that\u2019s been in the league as long as he has. I\u2019m not saying that he doesn\u2019t want to be in training camp, but if he misses some time, there\u2019s obviously still interest there and we\u2019ve been keeping in touch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Detroit entered training camp this summer with Marcus Davenport, who missed 15 games last season, as the defensive end opposite of Aidan Hutchinson, who himself is returning from a shortened 2024 season after fracturing his tibia and fibula last October.
