It is still uncertain whether Joe Mixon will be ready for Week 1. For that reason, the Houston Texans acquired Nick Chubb<\/a> this offseason, and head coach DeMeco Ryans has now provided a promising update on their new running back.<\/p>\n

The Texans<\/a> have significantly improved in recent years, largely thanks to the arrival of C.J. Stroud in 2023. They\u2019ve built a strong offense around their star quarterback, with Joe Mixon expected to be a crucial piece.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Mixon may not be available for the season opener. He\u2019s currently dealing with a foot injury, which could force the team to turn to their newest addition, Nick Chubb, as the starter.<\/p>\n

Chubb suffered a major knee injury in 2023 that required multiple surgeries. Since then, he\u2019s battled additional setbacks, which have naturally impacted his performance on the field.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Browns chose not to re-sign him for 2025. Once he became a free agent, several teams expressed interest, but Chubb ultimately chose the Texans as his next destination.<\/p>\n

Chubb knew he was coming in as a backup. However, with Mixon still recovering, the veteran may be called upon to start in Week 1. According to DeMeco Ryans<\/a>, the team is confident Chubb can rise to the occasion and regain his top form.<\/p>\n

\u201cNick has been consistent. He\u2019s done a really good job,\u201d HC DeMeco Ryans told reporters. \u201cI see a very physical runner when he has the football in his hand. He does a really nice job in protection schemes and of staying square, picking up the blitzes from the defenders. He\u2019s just all around solid, consistent. He\u2019s gotten better every day that he\u2019s been here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Can Joe Mixon be ready for Week 1?<\/p>\n

Right now, Joe Mixon is listed as \u201cout\u201d on the team\u2019s depth chart. He sustained a foot injury in July that has already ruled him out for the entire preseason and left his Week 1 status in serious doubt.<\/p>\n
