SEATTLE \u2014 The Seattle Seahawks traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2025 third-round pick Friday evening, according to multiple NFL insiders. <\/a><\/p>\n

The trade was posted on the NFL’s X account at 3:58 p.m.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 34-year-old, two-time Pro Bowler, initially joined the Seahawks in the 2020 NFL season as Russell Wilson’s backup and earned the starting position at the start of the 2022 season. <\/p>\n

In 2022, Smith had 4,282 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 100.9 passer rating, leading the Seahawks to a playoff berth and also earning him the AP Comeback Player of the Year. <\/p>\n

In the 2023 season, Smith had 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a passer rating of 92.1 through 15 games. In 2024, Smith had 4,320 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and a passer rating of 93.2.<\/p>\n

Smith currently holds the Seahawks franchise record for most pass attempts in a season, most pass attempts in a single game, most pass completions in a single season, highest completion percentage, and most passing yards in a single season. <\/p>\n

Smith has one year, and $31 million remaining on his current contract, and as of the time of the trade report, no new deal has been announced. The Seahawks will save the aforementioned $31 million in cap space while only taking a $13.5 million dead cap hit.<\/p>\n

In Las Vegas, Smith will join his former Seahawks head coach, Pete Carroll.<\/a> The 73-year-old Carroll is returning to the sideline after leading Seattle to two NFC championships and the franchise\u2019s only Super Bowl title during a 14-year stretch that ended following the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

This news comes on the heels of Seattle releasing 10-year veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf’s trade request.<\/p>\n

In the 2024 season, the Seahawk’s second and third string quarterbacks were Sam Howell and Jaren Hall. But how Seattle plans to proceed with the starting quarterback position is currently unknown. <\/p>\n

“As Sam Darnold is set to become a free agent next week, he now is expected to have another option available to him: the Seattle Seahawks, who are trading Geno Smith to the Raiders,” wrote ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter on X.<\/a><\/p>\n

Schefter, in an X post at 5:03 p.m.<\/a>, wrote that the Seahawks were working to extend Smith’s contract over the past week, but when they couldn’t make any progress, the Raiders stepped in and showed interest in acquiring Smith.<\/p>\n
