Texas Monthly is no stranger to Texas Football. Mack Brown<\/a>, Colt McCoy<\/a>, and plenty of other Longhorns have appeared on the cover of the national magazine of Texas by BBQ reviews, West Texas travel recommendations, and jabs at state politicians. In the August 2025 issue, S.C. Gwynne has a long, well-written, and insightful feature on Texas quarterback <\/a>Arch Manning<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\n

Contained within the story are insights from Arch\u2019s father Cooper, his brother Heid, his Isidore Newman coach Nelson Stewart, and plenty of other Longhorns and members of Manning\u2019s circle. Also included is a chat with Archie Manning, Arch\u2019s grandfather. <\/p>\n

There\u2019s been plenty of speculation about whether or not Arch will be the Longhorns\u2019 quarterback for two seasons. After sitting for that same amount of time, Manning is eligible for the 2026 NFL draft. He could have a stellar 2025 and go off to the NFL in April.<\/p>\n

As Archie told Gwynne, that doesn\u2019t appear to be in the cards.<\/p>\n

As the season approaches, many of the same people who have already awarded Arch the Heisman and the national championship are predicting that he will also be the number one NFL draft choice in 2026. Stories abound about how NFL teams could position themselves to get him, though there is no reason to believe he would leave Texas next year, with or without a championship ring. His grandfather says he hasn\u2019t discussed it with Arch, but he knows his grandson: \u201cArch isn\u2019t going to do that. He\u2019ll be at Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manning is already atop the Heisman odds for this season. He carries +600 odds according to BetMGM to become Texas\u2019 third winner of the honor. He was a first-team preseason All-American selection by The Sporting News on Wednesday. The hype is real, and the hype may be around for two season\u2019s worth of starts.<\/p>\n

Gwynne\u2019s story relays plenty about Manning\u2019s upbringing, recruitment, family history, and much more. It even included this tidbit about Arch from Cooper.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid he love it? Of course not,\u201d Cooper told me. \u201cHe certainly wished he was playing last year. But he was a good soldier and a good teammate.\u201d<\/p>\n

The story brings Manning to a non-sports crowd and to a non-Longhorn crowd.
