After Shedeur Sanders\u2019 successful Cleveland Browns debut on Friday night in a 30-10 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers<\/a>, Kevin Stefanski\u2019s four-man quarterback battle is once again up in the air.<\/p>\n

Before Sanders showed out, completing 14\/23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, Stefanski had a clear path forward: start Joe Flacco, keep Kenny Pickett in waiting, develop Dillon Gabriel, and either cut Sanders<\/a> or develop him at a snail\u2019s pace that\u2019d all but stall his career before it ever truly started.<\/p>\n

Now, Sanders may force Stefanski\u2019s consideration to start the \u201cGrown QB.\u201d And possibly reconsider Gabriel\u2019s standing on the team.<\/p>\n

Andscape\u2019s William Rhoden deemed Gabriel Sanders\u2019 \u201cchief rival\u201d for a roster spot<\/a>, calling into question whether Browns GM Andrew Berry has room for both rookie signal-callers on the roster.<\/p>\n

After Jimmy Haslam distanced himself from the Sanders selection<\/a> while speaking to reporters, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Gabriel was the franchise\u2019s true chosen one.<\/p>\n

The fans aren\u2019t going to choose Gabriel now, though. Sanders is now a fan-favorite after looking competent under center and playing winning football. Nike is releasing ads about it. Cleveland is the center of the football world.<\/p>\n

Would the Browns\u2019 brain trust give up all that and choose Gabriel instead?<\/p>\n
