Ronnie Harrison<\/a> has returned to the NFL, with the Atlanta Falcons announcing<\/a> on Sunday the signing of the former Alabama<\/a> safety.<\/p>\n

Harrison had been an unrestricted free agent since March 12 after he played in 10 games, almost exclusively as a special-teamer, for the Indianapolis Colts in 2024.<\/p>\n

The Falcons signed Harrison one game into their three-game preseason schedule. Atlanta lost to the Detroit Lions 17-10<\/a> on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Harrison came aboard as safety Grayland Arnold left the active roster for injured reserve.<\/p>\n

Harrison entered the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018 as a third-round draft choice from Alabama\u2019s 2017 CFP national-championship team.<\/p>\n

After Harrison started 22 games in his first two seasons, the Jaguars traded him to the Cleveland Browns 10 days before the start of the 2020 season for a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

Harrison started 23 games over the next three seasons for the Browns. <\/p>\n

Harrison joined the Colts in 2023 and played in seven games, with three starts, as he also worked at linebacker with Indianapolis. <\/p>\n

In 84 regular-season games, including 48 starts, Harrison has 245 tackles, seven interceptions, 6.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 25 pass breakups, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.<\/p>\n

The NFL transactions report for this weekend was dotted with defensive backs who played at Alabama high schools and colleges. Joining Harrison were Levi Wallace <\/a>and Marcus Banks<\/a> from Alabama and B.J. Mayes <\/a>from UAB<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wallace\u2019s bid for an eighth NFL season since entering the league as an undrafted rookie in 2018 has ended \u2013 at least with the Jacksonville Jaguars. <\/p>\n

The Jaguars signed Wallace<\/a> on Aug. 3 after he had lingered in free agency since March 12. But the Jaguars have put the cornerback on injured reserve with an undisclosed ailment. Wallace won\u2019t be able to play in 2025 unless he is released with an injury settlement. That would allow him to sign with a team when he is healthy again.<\/p>\n

Wallace has started 72 regular-season and five playoff games in his NFL career.<\/p>\n

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Banks with an injury settlement. The Bucs had placed the safety on injured reserve on Aug. 1 with an undisclosed injury.<\/p>\n

Banks spent his rookie season on Tampa Bay\u2019s practice squad after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2024.<\/p>\n

Banks played cornerback at Alabama from 2019 through 2021, then transferred to Mississippi State in 2022. He shifted to safety with the Bulldogs in 2023.<\/p>\n

Indianapolis signed Mayes, who played at UAB in 2023 between his time at Incarnate Word and Texas A&M.<\/p>\n

Mayes signed with Philadelphia as an undrafted rookie on May 2, and the Eagles released him on Aug. 3.<\/p>\n
