On August 9, 2025, at the Chiefs\u2019 training camp and during the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals in Kansas City, Missouri, Mahomes was on the field just long enough to throw a touchdown pass to Jason Brownlee. This happened right after Mahomes recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff.That touchdown was his only play before backup quarterback Gardner Minshew arrived to let the starters rest.
