Miami Dolphins<\/a> head coach Mike McDaniel<\/a> is making it clear that the altercation between linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson during last week\u2019s joint practice<\/a> with the Chicago Bears isn\u2019t cause for alarm.<\/p>\n

The heated exchange occurred two days before Miami\u2019s preseason opener and quickly drew attention, but both players brushed it off as nothing more than \u201cbrotherly love.\u201d Speaking with reporters after the game, Brooks compared the moment to a sibling spat.<\/p>\n

\u201cWasn\u2019t no disagreement,\u201d Brooks said with Dodson standing beside him. \u201cMy dawg right here, man, with us. Fight all the time. So anybody got kids, they fight all the time. That\u2019s all. That was, man, brotherly love.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead shed some light on the cause, saying Brooks was challenging Dodson to bring down a Bears player more forcefully. Dodson explained it as a matter of sticking to the Dolphins\u2019 own standards during practice.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a thud tempo, so we can\u2019t worry about what others do,\u201d Dodson said. \u201cWe have our own discipline and stuff like that. If it\u2019s thud, it\u2019s thud. It\u2019s no tackling. So that\u2019s what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dolphins had grown frustrated with the Bears\u2019 physicality<\/a> during the joint session, which included defenders tackling, shoving, and throwing down Miami offensive players. Star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle suffered an injury after being hit by a Bears defender, keeping him out of the preseason opener. McDaniel did not provide details on Waddle\u2019s status.<\/p>\n

When asked about the Brooks-Dodson incident, McDaniel admitted he \u201cwasn\u2019t pumped about the front part of it,\u201d especially since he was on the offensive field when it happened. However, he praised the players for taking accountability afterward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey came up to me and explained what happened,\u201d McDaniel said. \u201cThe biggest thing is they took the time to apologize to the team. They knew it wasn\u2019t to our standard and what we\u2019re about. So overall, I think it was something that was family business that families go through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooks, who called himself the \u201cbig brother\u201d in the linebacker room, said the scuffle came from knowing how much Dodson can contribute. \u201cThat was part of what the scuffle was about,\u201d Brooks explained. \u201cKnowing his abilities to do everything out there on the football field.\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident didn\u2019t appear to affect their chemistry on game day. In the first quarter of Miami\u2019s preseason matchup, Dodson made a key tackle to get the defense off the field. Brooks was one of the first to celebrate with him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was awesome,\u201d Brooks said. \u201cGetting off the field, being extra physical, getting off down. It had me excited. Anytime we get off the field, I\u2019m excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

In McDaniel\u2019s eyes, the matter is resolved. Both players apologized, addressed it publicly together, and showed unity on the field. As Dodson put it, \u201cIf anybody has kids, sometimes you know [siblings] fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the Dolphins, it\u2019s on to the next challenge \u2014 with their linebacker duo back on the same page.<\/p>\n
