Mike Tomlin’s postgame presser following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ preseason victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> came to an abrupt halt when not a single reporter posed a question to the NFL<\/a> head coach.<\/p>\n

After the Steelers<\/a> clinched a 31-25 win at Everbank Stadium on Saturday, Tomlin made his way to the media room, likely expecting the usual grilling from journalists. Instead, the 53-year-old, gearing up for his 19th season at the helm of the Steelers, delivered his opening remarks and opened the floor for questions.<\/p>\n

Throughout the preseason, Tomlin has been grilled with tough questions, especially regarding new starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers<\/a>. However, this Saturday was an anomaly, leaving both Tomlin and the Steelers’ media representative puzzled by the silence from the reporters in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n

“Thank you,” Tomlin said, grinning as it dawned on him that there would be no inquiries, while another team official quipped: “That was easy,” as the Super Bowl champion coach exited towards the locker room.<\/p>\n

Drawing significant insights from the first preseason game is challenging, given the limited playtime for starters against the Jags. Rodgers was on the sidelines for the matchup, and sixth-round pick Will Howard was out due to injury.<\/p>\n

This led to backup Mason Rudolph taking the reins, completing nine of 10 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Skylar Thompson stepped up as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback, delivering an impressive performance by completing 20 of 28 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns, leading the team to a win.<\/p>\n

Coach Tomlin praised the effort in his post-game remarks: “It was really a good evening’s work,” he began. “We got put in a lot of situations and got a chance to watch people perform in them, a two-minute drive before the half kind of highlighting some of that.<\/p>\n

“I thought we did a nice job of not beating our own butt. We kept pre-snap penalties virtually to a minimum; I think we had one. We played a pretty clean game for our first time out. We gave a lot of people a lot of opportunities, and this is what this is about.”<\/p>\n

The Steelers are set to continue their preseason at Accrisure Stadium against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, followed by a trip to face the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Aug. 21.<\/p>\n

With Aaron Rodgers, the 41-year-old four-time MVP, now part of the Steelers after leaving the New York<\/a> Jets, it’s uncertain how much playtime he’ll see in the upcoming games.
