Though he’s been one of the rookies generating some buzz<\/a>, 49ers<\/a> fans didn’t get to see rookie cornerback Upton Stout in action during San Francisco’s preseason opener against the Denver Broncos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said afterwards that Stout was experiencing some calf tightness<\/a> and so they opted to be cautious with him.<\/p>\n

On Monday, San Francisco kept practicing precaution with Stout. Shanahan updated Stout’s injury status as well as wide receiver Jacob Cowing and cornerback Renardo Green’s statuses to begin the week with reporters.<\/p>\n

“We were hoping Upton can go today. It was feeling too sore, so we’re being safe with him. I\u2019d be surprised if he goes tomorrow, hopefully he’ll be back by the Raiders<\/a> practice. Jake had a really good day to day, hit all his times, so he’ll get out there tomorrow. Renardo didn’t, so we’ll be safe with him and probably hold him this week,” Shanahan said.<\/p>\n

Cowing is making a return from his hamstring injury, while Green needs a little more time to recuperate his hamstring ailment.<\/p>\n

Shanahan shared several other notable injury updates on Monday. Rookie wide receiver Jordan Watkins will be sidelined for a month<\/a> with an ankle sprain.<\/p>\n

The 49ers finally shared a potential return timeline<\/a> for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk from his knee injury, too. Though it wasn’t definitive, Shanahan estimated Aiyuk could return by Week 6 of the season. Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL and torn MCL in Week 7 last season against the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

San Francisco meets the Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> in their second of three preseason tilts on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT in a game that will be broadcast on the NFL Network.<\/p>\n
