Los Angeles Rams<\/a> backup quarterback Stetson Bennett had an electrifying 2025 debut<\/a> in Week 1 of the preseason. Bennett finished with 188 passing yards for two passing touchdowns and one interception on 16-of-24 attempts.<\/p>\n

While it’s only the preseason, Bennett’s strong performance following two years of bad plays in his previous preseasons is a good sign that the former 2023 fourth-round pick out of Georgia can at least play competent football in the NFL. He isn’t a threat to Jimmy Garoppolo (yet) and certainly not to Matthew Stafford, but Bennett gives the Rams another potential quarterback to go to in the event of catastrophe to the room.<\/p>\n

CBS Sports NFL analyst Cody Benjamin<\/a> recognized Bennett’s preseason success, too. He called Bennett’s performance “commanding,” which was one of the more positive one-word evaluations of the quarterbacks who played in Week 1. It helps, too, that Rams head coach Sean McVay offered words of praise for Bennett as well.<\/p>\n

The Rams don’t need Bennett to shine, but it makes the pick they used on him three years ago look a little better when he can put together good film against NFL-caliber players. He very well may turn into Stafford’s heir, too, if the team wants to go with a youth revolution under center.<\/p>\n
