{"id":28339,"date":"2025-05-06T12:35:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T12:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/28339\/"},"modified":"2025-05-06T12:35:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T12:35:09","slug":"indiana-approves-girls-flag-high-school-football-as-an-emerging-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/28339\/","title":{"rendered":"Indiana approves girls&#8217; flag high school football as an &#8217;emerging sport&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Indiana High School Athletic Association has approved girls flag football as an \u201cemerging sport.\u201d Monday\u2019s announcement means that the sport has taken its first step toward becoming a fully sanctioned high school sport in the Hoosier State.<\/p>\n<p>The driving force behind the push is the National Football League\u2019s Indianapolis Colts, who earlier this year launched the Road To 100, the team\u2019s initiative\u00a0to\u00a0support and sustain the launch of 100 high school girls teams in Indiana in 2025.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Congrats to the Indiana High School Athletic Association <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IHSAA1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@IHSAA1<\/a> \u2014-approving girls flag football as an \u201cemerging sport,\u201d the first step toward becoming a fully sanctioned high school sport in Indiana. \ud83d\udc4f\ud83d\udc4d\ud83c\udfc8<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jim Irsay (@JimIrsay) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JimIrsay\/status\/1919521958640718274?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May 5, 2025<\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe growth of girls flag football has accelerated greatly over the past few years, from little league to high school to all the way to the 2028 Olympics,\u201d\u00a0said Kalen Jackson, Colts Vice Chair &amp; Owner.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re grateful to the IHSAA for continuing this momentum and opening more opportunities for girls and women athletes across Indiana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Colts created the\u00a0Colts Girls High School Flag Football League\u00a0in 2023 with eight teams from Indianapolis and South Bend, Ind. In 2024, the league expanded to 27 teams, qualifying to be voted on as an emerging sport.
