Legendary Clemson receiver Hunter Renfrow continues to impress as he makes his NFL comeback this year.<\/p>\n
Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Brad Idzik was the latest to praise Renfrow, who signed a one-year deal with the Panthers back in April.<\/p>\n
Renfrow missed the entire 2024 season while dealing with health challenges<\/a>\u00a0stemming from a diagnosis of the autoimmune condition ulcerative colitis.<\/p>\n However, now healthy and back in action after a year away from the game, the 29-year-old veteran still possesses his savvy route-running skills and baffling ability to separate himself from opposing defenders.<\/p>\n \u201cHe just gets open. He just knows how to get open,\u201d Idzik told reporters, via ESPN\u2019s David Newton<\/a>. \u201cYou might have bad leverage, he knows how to steal leverage. He\u2019s got freaky lateral quickness. When he opens up, he\u2019s like \u2013 big strides, powerful first four steps, which simulates, \u2018I\u2019m going full-tilt vertical.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Idzik, a former wide receivers coach with the Buccaneers and Seahawks \u2013 and a former wide receiver at Wake Forest \u2013 added that \u201cif you give [Renfrow] five seconds, he\u2019ll get open versus anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEverything stems off the vertical. Has he run true go balls outside? That\u2019s not really his craft, right,\u201d Idzik said. \u201cBut he simulates that every single time, and then he eats up whatever leverage you give him. He just does a phenomenal job of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Renfrow recorded 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns across his five seasons with the Raiders from 2019-23.<\/p>\n Renfrow recently missed several practices<\/a> and the Panthers\u2019 preseason opener while tending to a hamstring injury, but is now back practicing and appears to have picked up right where he left off before the injury:<\/p>\n Bryce Young throwing to Hunter Renfrow who’s back at practice.
