Kayvon Thibodeaux certainly thinks the Giants\u2019 defensive line won its matchup with the Jets\u2019 offensive line during the pair of joint practices this week.<\/p>\n

Asked Thursday for an assessment of Gang Green quarterback Justin Fields, Thibodeaux said it would be difficult for him to give one because of what transpired Tuesday in Florham Park and Wednesday at the Giants\u2019 facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cMan, it\u2019s tough for quarterbacks right now, especially in practice,\u201d Thibodeaux said. \u201cEspecially for us. We got guys like me, [Brian] Burns, [Dexter Lawrence], Chauncey [Golston], [Rakeem Nunez-Roches], [Fields] was under a little bit of pressure. So I can\u2019t really give you a full analysis on what I think of him as a quarterback because he did have to run and scramble and do a lot of things. Yeah, you guys have to probably take a look at that on your own.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t a glowing endorsement of the Jets\u2019 O-line \u2014 the starters surrendered four sacks Wednesday, according to The Post\u2019s Ryan Dunleavy \u2014 as they try to anchor an offense that has struggled in camp, but that type of performance isn\u2019t new for the Giants\u2019 defensive line this summer.<\/p>\n

It has dominated training camp and the Giants\u2019 offensive line at many points \u2014 with Burns, Lawrence, Thibodeaux, rookie Abdul Carter and others all making it difficult for the offense to operate.<\/p>\n

Every snap has become a \u201crace to the quarterback,\u201d Thibodeaux said.<\/p>\n

Clips of dynamic pass-rushing moves have become routine. And for two days, in Thibodeaux\u2019s eyes, they helped replicate that havoc by disrupting any potential rhythm for Fields.<\/p>\n

Head coach Brian Daboll declined to reveal whether the Giants\u2019 starters will play in a second consecutive preseason game, but he added the joint practices won\u2019t impact his final decision \u2014 which he planned to make following their walk-through Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say it affects it,\u201d Daboll said. \u201cAgain, we\u2019ll end up making the decision we think is best. There\u2019s no substitute for tackling. There\u2019s no substitute for cleaning the pocket. There\u2019s no substitute for run after catch when you\u2019re going to get hit. There\u2019s no substitute for being live as a quarterback in the pocket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paulson Adebo, who has matched up with Malik Nabers throughout the summer, has been impressed by the second-year wideout\u2019s \u201celite\u201d traits and has embraced the challenge of matching up against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung or not, he\u2019s doing some things that it doesn\u2019t matter how many years you\u2019ve been in the league,\u201d Adebo said. \u201cHe really is elite with the things that he does and his body control and catching the ball down the field and burst. Literally, there\u2019s no knock to the game. Coming out of routes. Running every route. So you really do have to prepare for everything with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daboll didn\u2019t have an injury update on Nabers (toe), who hasn\u2019t practiced since last Wednesday.<\/p>\n

On paper, Thibodeaux could\u2019ve been an option for the Jets to draft, too. They held the No. 4 pick in 2022 \u2014 one spot ahead of where the Giants eventually took Thibodeaux \u2014 and ultimately selected Sauce Gardner, but Thibodeaux wasn\u2019t necessarily expecting to join Gang Green after his pre-draft visit.<\/p>\n

He was tired. Jet-lagged.
