Entering his first NFL season as New England Patriots<\/a> head coach, Mike Vrabel has undoubtedly made his presence felt amidst the early stages, including getting into a recent back-and-forth with a reporter over Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs<\/a>\u2019 health. In a short span since training camp, Vrabel has broken up two fights during joint practices<\/a>, made a Diggs and Cardi B joke, and roasted two different opposing coaches\/former teammates with a Tom Brady line.<\/p>\n

This time, however, he wasn\u2019t smiling. Vrabel, when Patriots veteran reporter Phil Perry revealed Diggs said he wasn\u2019t sure if he\u2019d be ready before the start of the 2025 NFL regular season, casting doubt on his readiness for Week 1, snapped back<\/a> at Perry for his line of questioning.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you really believe that, Phil [Perry]? I mean, you\u2019re a smart guy. I don\u2019t know where you went to school \u2013 it wasn\u2019t Ohio State. But like, do you really believe that? Do you really believe that, Phil, or are you just trying to bait me into something?\u201d Vrabel asked. I don\u2019t know the context in which he said it. You\u2019d have to help me.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been out here almost every day. I\u2019m excited with where we\u2019re at, and we\u2019ll see when Week 1 comes. He\u2019s going to practice today. Hopefully, he helps us in the red zone, but we can\u2019t predict the future about Week 1. I just know he\u2019s going to be out there today. He works hard and he cares, which are two important things,\u201d Vrabel concluded.<\/p>\n

Patriots wide receiver\u00a0Stefon Diggs did give a non-committal response<\/a> while looking ahead to his debut in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. Still, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel made a valid point, suggesting that Diggs can\u2019t know how his body will respond between now and then.<\/p>\n

Diggs is taking things one day at a time<\/a>, he said, per The Athletic\u2019s Dianna Russini.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see,\u201d Diggs replied. \u201cEverybody is excited, man. I\u2019m just, like, taking it day by day.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, he does feel good about where he\u2019s at this far in his recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel great. I mean, I\u2019m pushing the needle always,\u201d Diggs added. \u201cI\u2019m always on doing more than less. And you know we\u2019ll see about Week 1. I don\u2019t know how I feel about it. We\u2019ll see. Coaches aren\u2019t too excited about it. I\u2019m not too excited, I\u2019m just trying to take it day by day, so we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diggs, coming off a torn ACL injury, signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal with the Patriots as a free agent.<\/p>\n
