In the unit\u2019s first action together this preseason, Seattle\u2019s first-string offense opened the game by churning out exceptionally sharp 10-play, 81-yard touchdown drive.<\/p>\n
The offensive line pushed defenders off the ball and \u2013 with help from the tight ends, fullback and wide receivers \u2013 created wide running lanes in new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak\u2019s scheme. Zach Charbonnet took full advantage, showing nice burst and decisiveness while rushing for 45 yards and a touchdown on five carries.<\/p>\n
And with the run game humming, Sam Darnold was a crisp 4 of 4 for 34 yards in his Seahawks debut \u2013 highlighted by back-to-back completions on play-action bootlegs where rookie fullback Robbie Ouzts and rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo were schemed wide-open.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, offensively it\u2019s about how you would script it,\u201d Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said of the opening drive.<\/p>\n
.@Seahawks<\/a> offense looked flawless with Sam Darnold under center in their opening drive \ud83d\udc4f<\/p>\n Watch on @NFLNetwork<\/a> \u2014 NFL (@NFL) August 16, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n Consider this: There\u2019s a stat called success rate<\/a> that measures how often an offense achieves a successful play \u2013 with success defined as gaining at least 40% of the yards to go on first down, at least 60% of the yards to go on second down and 100% of the yards to go on third or fourth down.<\/p>\n And by that measure, the Seahawks achieved a perfect 100% success rate on their opening drive, with a successful result on all 10 plays.<\/p>\n It was a sharp contrast from last season, when they had one of the worst run games in the league and were frequently facing third-and-long in then-OC Ryan Grubb\u2019s dropback-heavy passing attack.<\/p>\n \u201cAll of us on defense were excited about the flow that we had on offense today,\u201d Seahawks safety Julian Love said. \u201cWhen you\u2019re able to stay on cadence, on timing, ahead of the sticks, it is awesome. I don\u2019t know the final numbers or the time of possession and all that stuff, but we see what it can be.\u201d<\/p>\n Darnold & Co. know it was only one drive in a preseason game. But for an offense that\u2019s looking to create a new identity \u2013 one that meshes a strong run game with an efficient passing attack \u2013 Friday night\u2019s cameo was a highly encouraging start.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was our style of football,\u201d Darnold said. \u201cIt\u2019s the style we wanted to create in OTAs and then even in training camp. We started to find our identity that way and can kind of see it come to life.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s August, so there is still a long ways to go in terms of where we want to be as an offense.
