The Cleveland Browns took a chance on rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders in this year’s draft, selecting him with the franchise’s No. 144 overall pick. The first-year signal caller is now locked in highly-publicized preseason QB battle with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Tyler Huntley and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.<\/p>\n

Sanders played well in his preseason debut, completing 14\/23 pass attempts for 138 yards and one touchdown in a 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. That being said, his positive momentum was stalled by an oblique injury he suffered during practice on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Sanders was held out of practice on Thursday and his status for Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles is in question.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, felt it early, I think warming up and then felt it throughout individual [drills], so took a look at it,\u201d Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said. \u201cIf it\u2019s a right guard, you can play through that. When it\u2019s a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, unfortunately, going to put him down for a little bit here. We\u2019ll treat it day-to-day and see how it responds. But, want to be smart because he\u2019s a thrower \u2014 you can\u2019t push that thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

It seems the Browns are resting Sanders out of an abundance of caution.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s just with throwers, and pitchers, and guys that torque and twist their body, you\u2019ve got to be really careful,\u201d Stefanski continued.<\/p>\n

Though he wasn’t active on Thursday, Sanders showed up to practice in full pads.<\/p>\n

“Good to see he\u2019s still getting the mental reps. And good to see the Browns being overly cautious due to the injuries in the QB room,” one fan wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n

“Encouraging that he can be in uniform at least,” another added.<\/a><\/p>\n

“Speedy recovery, Sanders!” another said.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Browns’ preseason matchup against the Eagles will kickoff at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.<\/p>\n
