HOUSTON \u2013 Texans right offensive tackle Blake Fisher sprained his ankle Saturday against the Carolina Panthers and it\u2019s undetermined how long it will take for him to make a full recovery, per league sources.<\/p>\n
Fisher\u2019s injury is considered to be on the milder scale of sprained ankle.<\/p>\n
The injury prompted the medical staff to have him checked out in the blue medical tent on the sideline. <\/p>\n
Fisher, a former second-round draft pick from Notre Dame who signed a four-year, $6.595 million contract that includes $ 3.562 million guaranteed and a $1.616 million signing bonus, had arguably his best performance of the preseason.<\/p>\n
He appeared in 25 snaps and didn\u2019t allow any pressures. He had struggled with false starts and pressures surrendered to star defensive ends Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. during training camp and had those issues in the preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n
Fisher, who started five of 15 games played as a rookie last season, is listed second on the depth chart behind rookie Aireontae Ersery, who is currently starting at left tackle with Cam Robinson still recovering from a leg injury.<\/p>\n
Fisher had a 78.1 pass blocking grade and a 54.1 run blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus analytics, an increase of 30 points in each category against Carolina from his scores from the Vikings game.<\/p>\n
Fisher is regarded as a leading candidate to be the swing tackle for the Texans.<\/p>\n
Fisher (6-foot-6, 310 pounds, 34 3\/8 arms, 10-inch hands) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.2 seconds at the NFL scouting combine with a 28-inch vertical leap and a 9-6 broad jump.<\/p>\n
He started 12 games at right tackle in his final college season, opting out of the Sun Bowl to get ready for the draft.<\/p>\n
He started as a freshman for the Fighting Irish.<\/p>\n
Fisher is a converted left tackle who started every game at right tackle his final two seasons.<\/p>\n
