The San Fransico 49ers travel to the desert to take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Game 2 of the 2025 NFL preseason for both teams.<\/p>\n

The 49ers are fresh off a 30-9 shellacking by the Denver Broncos in the first preseason game on Aug. 8.<\/p>\n

Mac Jones got the start under center for the 49ers at home against the Broncos and tossed for 74 yards on 4-of-7 passing with one interception.<\/p>\n

Corey Kiner rushed for 45 yards on 10 carries while Jordan Watkins caught three balls for 56 yards.<\/p>\n

It’s the third straight season that the 49ers and Raiders have met in the preseason, and San Francisco continues to deal with injuries. After the two teams’ joint practice on Thursday, coach Kyle Shanahan noted that 20 players missed practice.<\/p>\n

“It was a challenge to get through that,” he said. “I thought we needed it. I was real proud of the guys, a number of positions had to step up, especially DB, D-line, wideout. But I thought we competed hard out there.”<\/p>\n

QB Brock Purdy didn’t play last week in the loss to the Broncos, but he could see action on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Shanahan said that he’s ready to give some of the starters who are able to play, a chance to see the field against the Raiders on Saturday, and that includes Purdy.<\/p>\n

“I’d like Brock to play,” Shanahan said, per 49ers Webzone<\/a>. “We’ll see how it goes. I haven’t decided anything for sure yet. We’ll watch this tape. I planned on getting these starters going. There might be a couple of guys I rest, but there’s not a lot of\u2014especially on the defense\u2014healthy starters as it is.”<\/p>\n

Injuries have plagued the team during the preseason. Defensive end Nick Bosa, wide receiver Jauan Jennings, running back Isaac Guerendo and rookie defensive end Mykel Williams were just a few of the notable players who sat out Thursday’s joint practice.<\/p>\n
